Another Nearly Gone

I don't know about the rest of you, but this year streaked by for me. It's been a fairly productive year mired with many speed bump, but I've spent a lot of time on my two bigger WIPs as well as some much shorter ideas. While I'm still working toward completion on my projects, I've noticed the satisfaction of accomplishing much more in writing than I did in the many years leading to now. And yes, the full measure of satisfaction will be met when I'm published, but it's kind of like growing: once you're matured to a certain point in life you realize the knowledge and enlightenment you've earned. But the fundamental fact remains that none of us is truly done growing. What I'm trying to say is that in an infinite universe there are an infinite amount of lessons to be learned. I've learned some more, for my part. How about the rest of you?

  1. Yes, the year's streaking by, buth there are still 4 full weeks left. Don't write off the year - who knows, you make finish one of your WIPs in 2011!

  2. Maybe if I could devote all the time to them. I'll make some great headway though.

  3. Nicely said, Mohamed! Four weeks ago I didn't have the 50K I have in my newest WIP!

Jules - You've had an amazing year, congrats!

  4. Years seem to go by quicker the older we get, but I wouldn't dare go back to being in my twenties again. I really like being older and having some experience to look back on. :)

  5. Tell me about it. Experience is the best teacher anyone could ever have.

  6. I haven't done Nano this year, but having started reading blogs and reading so many people's experience of it, I kind of feel that the approach of writing fast without worrying about every detail is rubbing off on me. I'm terribly slow at everything - maybe deadlines are good.

  7. It all depends on your style and what you're most comfortable with. I've heard from fellow authors that Nano really gets the creative juices flowing. I'll probably give it a whirl sometime soon.

  8. I've been on a steep learning curve in the last two or three years when it comes to writing, and I know that though the curve is slightly flatter now, I'm still learning.

  9. Life is always changing, thus the learning never ceases. Once it's all behind the learning curve will look more arced than it seems now.

  10. What a great attitude to have: appreciating both the lessons learned and the knowledge that's out there, waiting for each of us to imbibe. I feel the same way :))

Thanks for the follow on my blog! Looking forward to your posts.

  11. Knowledge is very precious, to everyone. It just waits to be learned.

  12. When it comes to writing, I'm learning at light speed. Since I more or less threw myself into it full-time, I treat it like a job. I'm constantly researching and reading and asking questions and getting better. It never ends. And it never should.

  13. I couldn't agree more! We must keep learning to keep growing. When we stop growing, we become static, we wither, we die.
Now, let's look forward to what the new year will bring for us!

  14. Nancy- I wish I could devote more time to learning, it's fun.

Nadja- You said it. To willingly stop growing is suicide, but to choose to continue is natural and rough, like life. Bring on the new year!

  15. You have to be a life-long-learner in order to be a writer. Even the best authors constantly grow. I like to compare an writer's early stuff and his newer releases.

It's amazing how even the pros improve their craft.
