New Ideas

And so it is, I have decided to begin working on a series of short stories related to my WIP. On one hand they'll serve to alleviate extras that would distract from the novel, but on the other they will also assist in my writing to sort through which details should go where and why. Some will have to do with my Theogony, but many to the myths and legends so often alluded to it. I will, however, branch off to my favorite genre: science-fiction! Yay! I developed an idea for it watching River Monsters: the episode which has Jeremy Wade searching for the Goonch catfish in the Kali River. I know it sounds like a strange source of inspiration for sci-fi, but hey: different strokes for different folks!

  1. Hey, we get our inspiration where we can!

I've seen authors use their "overflow" material to write short stories related to their novels. When you're rich and famous you can sell them to the hungry readers who can't get enough of your story's world. :)

  2. That's what I'm hoping for. Inspiration is a funny thing, springing from just about everywhere. All that's needed is knowing how to interpret it to form a cohesive idea.

  3. I'll take inspiration no matter where it comes from! Writing short stories related to your WIP is an awesome way to explore characters and plots that don't fit in with your novel. And, LG's right, when you are published, your readers will gobble them up.

  4. That's what I do. My intention is to further expand on my novel with an assortment of short stories, and perhaps a sequel.

  5. Julius, I think that's an awesome idea. I'm doing that with a couple of novellas set in the Ambasadora-verse. It gives readers more opportunities to visit your world and experience your characters.

BTW, thank you for the wonderful comment about Ambasadora--I'm going to put it on the Ambasadora page.

  8. Do what you must to get inspiration... do whatever it takes to keep writing, and not to mention; keep it fresh!
I wish you the best of luck.
