The Start of Something New

While I've got several stories swirling about in my head, one in particular seemed to snare me more, for now. I can't decide whether to make it a short story, or a novel though. It's a sci-fi inspired by Dune and 'In the Year 2525' with some Andromeda Strain tones to it. I've got a lot of brain work to do, because I have a sneaky suspicion that it may turn into a novel. Let's watch, as the plot thickens.

  3. Are you a plotter or a seat of the pants writer? Writing out a quick story arc or plot line might help you decide if the idea is big enough for a novel.

Love getting new ideas and starting on a fresh project.

  6. LGS- I'm a little of both. I'll start out with a sentence, and if it sounds interesting I'll develop it.

Nadja- We've been dealing with sunburns from a weekend of holiday tom foolery.

  7. I wish you the best of luck…

I never get to decide how long a story will be, it will decide itself. I don’t plot, plan, direct or even shove my story in any direction. It just comes to me during composition.
I loved Dune… sounds like an intriguing story idea, may the creative juices flow madly.

  8. I love Dune also. Ideas just seem to appear and patiently, I arrange them into cohesive groupings to form stories.

  9. Sounds exciting! I set out to write a short story once, and at seventeen thousand words into, I realized I was only getting started. It'll be interesting to hear what this one will be for you.

  10. It's funny, I recently said I was going to jot down a short story and get it up on Kindle ASAP. My desired word count was 10,000 words, which quickly became 15,000, and then 20,000. Finally when all was said and done, I had just shy of 25,000.

Sometimes a good story demands more space.
